First museum appeared in Rybinsk in the year 1910, it occupied two small rooms in the building of commercial college and contained collections of natural science, including materials of archeological expeditions. Later there were brought values from houses of merchants. Those were sculptures, furniture, paintings, weapon, books, and icons. Nowadays Rybinsk museum is located in the building of former Bread Exchange, it has two branch offices. There are memorial house – a museum of famous scientist, doctor A. A. Ukhtomsky and the only museum in Russia devoted to drowned region with center town Mologa. Mologa and some nearest villages were drowned in thirties, when Rybinsk reservoir was created. The inhabitants moved to Rybinsk.
